Pearl
of the Alpilles
Les Baux
de Provence, a feudal city, where proud Lords had
established their capital and for centuries defied
all powers.
The village
boasts an extremely rich architectural heritage. Its
abrupt headland, pushed forward by the Alpilles, is
crowned by the ruins of a remarkable castle. According
to the legend, the inhabitants of les Baux claim to
be descendents of one of the three kings, Balthazar,
hence their motto, "A l'azard Balthazar"
and their coat-of-arms bearing a star with 16 points.
