Chateau de l'Empéri
This is the biggest medieval castle in the Provence, five minutes from Nostradamus' house, sitting on a rocky hill overlooking the old town. The first known reference to the castle was in the 10 th century. From the 12th to the 18th century, the castle was the favorit residence of the Arles Archbishops who were at the time under the suzerainty of the German Roman emperors (hense the name "Emperi").

On 17 th  October 1564, Catherine de Medicis (the wife of king Henry II of France), accompanied by the young Charles 9th, his brother (the future Henry III), and Henry  de Navarre (who later became Henry I th), came to Salon to meet NOSTRADAMUS.
Despite the plague and the fact that the town was deserted, a huge ceremony was organized to greet the sovereigns. The meeting took place in front of the monumental fireplace in the
Chateau de l'Emperi. It was not in the  Queen's presence that Michel de Nostredame predicted the future for the young  prince. Charles 9th went to Aix and Toulon and, when he returned to Arles, called for Nostradamus. When they left, Nostradamus was appointed "doctor to the King and counselor to the Queen".
